Transformation of Non-BPMN Business Process Models into Standard BPMN Methodology

Kaiserslautern, 05 Sep 2010

BPM-Xchange® offered by BPM-X GmbH, Germany is a software suite that allows universal model and metadata transformation. Models defined by non-standard methodologies are transformed into standard BPMN 1.1, 1.2 and 2.0 methodologies. This allows organizations to convert their existing process model documentations into the future of BPMN standard. The support of the guidelines for the design of Business Process Models (DoDAF OV-6c) using BPMN defined by the US Department of Defense (DoD) with model design patterns guarantees the market dominance of high-quality BPMN process models.

Many organizations invest large amounts of their financial budget in business process documentations described by various methodologies, such as Flowcharts or oftentimes eEPC. The BPMN methodology, developed by the Object Management Group (OMG), becomes more and more a standard methodology widely used by many BPM vendors.

With BPM-Xchange®, BPM-X GmbH offers a business process model transformation software that allows a seamless transformation of model and metadata between various BPM tools, data formats and methodologies. Converting existing process models from non-BPMN to BPMN standard methodology is not a simple procedure because it implies a model structure changing transformation. If your organization uses e.g. the ARIS® Platform by Software AG (IDS Scheer) with eEPC based models, you cannot simply convert those EPC models to valid BPMN method-based models by removing event shapes or changing function shapes to BPMN activity shapes. Producing valid BPMN models from EPC models demands a complex transformation process.

BPM-Xchange® allows highly sophisticated model conversions powered by pattern-based transformations. Transformations are described as a set of rules and are executed in the BPM-Xchange® middleware engine to convert model and workflow patterns like parallel split, exclusive choice or merge into their BPMN equivalents. Rules are defined by rule templates and can be changed for specific client conventions.

Transformation rules are supporting the Guidelines for the Design of Business Process Models (DoDAF OV-6c) using BPMN defined by the US Department of Defense (DoD) with low- and high-level design patterns. Thereby, superior quality and correct and cost-effective models which are clear, comparable and exchangeable between BPM tools with a systematic design can be guaranteed.

Business Process Model conversions from non-BPMN models to BPMN 1.1, 1.2 and 2.0 can now be processed with the help of the BPM-Xchange® software or as a BPM-Xchange® service.

BPM-X GmbH develops and markets the BPM-Xchange® product line as well as related professional services. BPM-Xchange® is a software suite that offers genuine universal model, master and metadata exchange and transformation. It carries out highly sophisticated conversions between a variety of existing EA, BPA, GRC and BPM(S) tools and modeling languages. BPM-Xchange® can import all popular model formats and standards with a set of predefined adapters and templates.
